Is Your SaaS Blog Dying? Use These 7 Innovative Strategies To Increase Conversions For Your Blog

... And a mindset tip that makes hard things easy

Almost any business problem can be solved with the right content; one that offers a unique insight. Because content — no matter if it’s on the top or at the bottom of the funnel — will not convert unless it has a unique perspective.

Then, how can SaaS startups stand out with blogs when 70 million new posts are created monthly on WordPress alone (which powers 43% of the internet)?

Without reinventing the wheel, SaaS startups can use the same old content assets with a twist to drive better engagement.

For context, this is what conversions look like along the funnel in any business:

So when I say conversions, we’re not just talking about sales. We’re also talking about reach, impressions, visibility, growth, and public opinion

In this week’s newsletter, I will break down 7 innovative strategies to breathe life into your SaaS blog. These strategies are not only limited to blogs. They can also be used for eBooks, White Papers, Guides, and Podcasts.

But first, a copywriting tip that you can use right away!

🖊️ The Copywriting Tip You Can Use Right Away: Start Your Sentences With ‘You’

Back in Septemeber 2023, when I was getting my Copyhackers SaaS conversion copywriting certification, Jo poked us to do a fun exercise.

She asked us to choose any web copy we could find online and rephrase each sentence to start with ‘you’. To this day, I use the ‘you’ rule indefinitely.

Here’s an example:

From this: We are creatives, designers, producers, writers, videographers, illustrators, strategists and problem solvers. But we are also more than that. We are real, passionate people who believe meaningful partnerships lead to better stories and better results.

To this: You get a team of creatives designers, producers, writers, videographers, illustrators, strategists, and problem solvers. But that’s not all. You also get real, passionate people who believe meaningful partnerships lead to better stories and better results.

Do you instantly see the connection you feel as a recipient of the benefits of this amazing team?

Instead of just reading about the creatives and designers without feeling any genuine connection with them.

🧠 Use These 7 Innovative Strategies To Increase Conversions For Your Blog

While most companies stick to traditional listicles or how-to blog content, there are many creative ways to leverage blogs for maximum impact and prevent them from slowly dying out.

Here are some innovative strategies with examples, and how to use them:

1. Interactive Blogs

Interactive blogs allow readers to engage directly with the content through quizzes, polls, and interactive infographics. This not only makes the content more engaging but also provides valuable insights into your audience.

Example: HubSpot's interactive marketing quizzes.

How to Use Them: Embed interactive elements within your blog posts. Use tools like Typeform or Outgrow to create quizzes and surveys that relate to your blog topic.

Pro Tip: Make sure the interactive elements add value to the content and are easy to use. Use the data collected to tailor future content and improve personalization.

2. Expert Roundups

Expert roundups compile insights from industry leaders on a specific topic. This type of content not only provides valuable information to your readers but also helps build relationships with influencers and thought leaders in your industry.

Example: Buffer's expert roundup on social media trends.

How to Use Them: Reach out to industry experts and ask for their opinions on a relevant topic. Compile their responses into a comprehensive blog post and promote it widely.

Pro Tip: Choose a topic that is timely and relevant to your audience. Promote the roundup through social media and tag the contributors to increase reach.

3. Customer Success Stories

Customer success stories highlight how your SaaS product has helped clients achieve their goals. These stories provide social proof and demonstrate the real-world impact of your solution.

Example: Salesforce's customer success stories.

How to Use Them: Interview your successful customers and write detailed case studies highlighting their journey, challenges, and results achieved with your product.

Pro Tip: Use a storytelling approach to make the success stories more engaging. Include quotes, images, and specific metrics to add authenticity.

4. Behind-the-Scenes Posts

Behind-the-scenes posts are great for personality-building. This type of content helps humanize your brand, builds transparency, and shows how you solve your problems and run your daily operations.

Example: Buffer's behind-the-scenes look at their company culture.

How to Use Them: Share stories about your team, company events, product development processes, setbacks, and how you solve them. Use photos and videos to make the posts more engaging.

Pro Tip: Highlight your company culture and values. Show the people behind the product and share their stories to create a personal connection with your audience.

5. Data-Driven Insights

Data-driven blog posts analyze industry data and trends to provide valuable insights to your audience. These posts position your company as a thought leader and provide actionable information that your readers can use.

Example: HubSpot's marketing statistics reports.

How to Use Them: Conduct original research or compile data from reputable sources. Analyze the data and present it in an easy-to-understand format with charts, graphs, and infographics.

Pro Tip: Ensure the data is accurate and relevant to your audience. Use visuals to enhance understanding and highlight key takeaways.

6. Thought Leadership Articles

Thought leadership articles share your unique perspectives and insights on industry trends and challenges. These posts help establish your authority and influence within the industry.

Example: Neil Patel's thought leadership articles on digital marketing.

How to Use Them: Write in-depth articles on trending topics, emerging technologies, and industry challenges. Share your expert opinions and predictions to provide valuable insights to your audience.

Pro Tip: Back up your opinions with data and examples. Engage with readers through comments and social media to foster discussions and build your influence.

7. Collaborative Posts

Collaborative blog posts involve partnering with other brands or influencers to create content. This type of content helps expand your reach and build valuable partnerships.

Example: Co-authored articles by SaaS companies and industry influencers.

How to Use Them: Identify potential partners and collaborate on blog posts that benefit both parties. Share the content through both your networks to maximize reach.

Pro Tip: Choose partners whose audience aligns with yours. Ensure the collaboration provides value to both parties and their audiences.

Remember, blogs aren’t dying. They’re your strongest assets for long-term engagement and conversions when done right.

✨ A Mindset Tip For Entrepreneurs

Everyone says: DO THE HARD THING

Nobody really tells you how to keep doing the hard thing to the point where you see results.

So here’s my story…

I have a simple formula to do the hard thing:

I pair it with something easy, light, and fun.

• Hate workout? 🌶️ PAIR it with an hour of Netflix binge

• Hate collecting data? 🌶️ PAIR it with 🎧 podcast-listening (I listen to founders talking about startup growth & how they navigated the challenges in podcast interviews instead of reading endless whitepapers)

• Hate cooking? 🌶️ Put some music in the background. Turn it into a meditative experience.

If you do this enough, you’ll start loving the things you hate.

I’m a big believer in grabbing the low-hanging fruit. 🍇

📚 A Book Recommendation…

This week’s book recommendation is The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. This book challenges our assumptions about the predictability of the world and encourages us to be more aware of our limitations and the potential for unexpected events.

Definition of Black Swans: Black Swans are events that are rare, have a profound impact, and are often explained after the fact as if they were predictable.

The term originates from the discovery of black swans in Australia, which challenged the long-held belief that all swans were white.

Black Swans (event) has three key features:

Rarity: They are unlikely to happen based on past events.

Profound Impact: They have significant effects on our societies and lives.

Retrospective Predictability: People only tend to explain them as if they were predictable after the fact.

The book provides numerous examples of Black Swans, including historical events like World War I and II, the rise of the Internet, the 1987 stock-market crash, the 2008 financial crisis, and the 2019 Covid pandemic.

No one saw these coming. Yet, all of these events had significant consequences.

This quote is a key message from the book and speaks to the idea that each individual is, in a sense, a "Black Swan" — a rare, unpredictable, and potentially impactful event in their own right.

One of the concepts that blew me away was the concept of the antilibrary which refers to the value of unread books and the importance of acknowledging the extent of our ignorance.

The book highlights the limitations of human knowledge and our tendency to overestimate our ability to predict the future. It emphasizes that we are not capable of predicting Black Swans.
